8 lessons to live by...

hey guys!

this will be my last blog post of the year...
over the course of my 8th grade experience, I've been able to learn many new things; both academically and valuable lessons for my life in the future.

1. Everything happens for a reason.
If you are ever confused why something happens to you, just know that it is meant to happen. Whether that means that you agree with it at the time, just know that you might be able to learn a valuable life lesson from tht experience in the future.

2. Don't over-stress, everything is going to be okay.
Even though a test, project, or a social life situation might seem stressful, just think to yourself, that in the end, everything is going to work out.

3. Always plan ahead.
Don't procrastinate. Planning ahead will allow for you to have more free-time to spend with people you love.

4. Stay positive.
Don't ever dwell on the negatives, if you do, you will never be able to continue on with your life in a healthy way.

5. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
This truly is the "golden rule" to live your life by. Kindness is the answer to every situation.

6. Never give up on your dreams.
Even through times of struggles, always persevere to achieve your goals and never lost sight of your dreams.

7. Surround yourself with people that make you smile.
When you have the opportunity, surround yourself with people that you are able to create unforgettable memories with.

8. Have fun.
Always make sure that, even in a stressful situation, you are able to make the best out of it.

"The Erne from the Coast" by T. O. Beachcroft

Harry, a young boy living on a farm with his family, after request from his father, Mr. Thorburn, travels to Michael's house to watch over an unhealthy sheep. While Harry is staying on Michael's property, suddenly, a large eagle violently attacks Harry and the other animals. Harry, being severly wounded, slowly treks back to his father's house to inform him about the attack. However, it isn't until Harry defeats the strong creature and brings the eagle back to show his father, that Mr. Thorburn belives that Harry wasn't lying.

Harry, after his many adventures, now has more physical and mental strength. He also has a new sense of self-confidence; after killing the eagle and saving the farm animals. These transformations are caused by Harry choices and decsions throughout his fight with the erne. However, ultimately, he has transformed because of the drive that his father gave him by doubting him. Throughout my life, I have transformed, just like Harry did throughout his journey. However, most recently, the decision that has most transformed the person that I am and the person that I want to become is traveling to New York to go to a music camp. After I attended camp last year, I made the decision that I needed to go again. My experience last summer has opened my eyes to see the future that I want to pursue. I have learned that if I comitt, put in lots of hard work, and never give up I can achieve my goals and live out my dreams.

relationship with my family: Night response

My family and I have always been very connected and close. However, my relationship with my parents over the past few years has definitely changed. Recently, my relationship with my mom has become stronger. We have been able to bond and connect easier than we used to. Even though we aren't able to spend as much time together as we would wish, when we are given time to spend together, we are always creating unforgettable memories. My relationship with my father has completely changed from when I was little. When I was younger, I looked up to my dad and I still do today. However, I look up to him in a different way. Just like my mom and I, my dad and I have also become closer. Since we now act like two siblings, most of the time is filled with never-ending arguments. Even though we don't always agree or get along, whenever we spend time together, we always end up laughing.

Ever since I was a little kid, I always looked up to my parents. I wanted to be exactly like them; hard working, committed, loving, and able to have fun. I have always appreciated the endless work that they do for me and my family. As I have grown up, I have truly realized that being an adult, and more importantly a parent, is harder than it looks. But, my parents have been great parents; and I can never thank them enough for that. So, I still look up to them, just like I did when I was little. They truly are my inspirations.

innovations that have transformed the world

hey guys!

Today, I'm going to be talking about how innovations have transformed our world into what it has become today.

I think that the improvement of the use and the application of medicine is one of the most important innovations in our world. Both doctors and scientists have worked hard on creating a society with easier acces to the medicine, hospitals, and health care. Without these advancements in our society, the human species would not have been able to maintain our growing population. We would not have been able to keep our population safe and healthy. In conclusion, our society has made lots of progress in this area and in future generations I believe that our medical field and health department will continue to develop.

Progressive Era - 3 pressing issues today

hey guys!

There were many issues that "muckrakers" focused on during the Progressive Era, and many of these issues are still occurring today. However, the three that I think are most pressing in society today are women's rights, education reform, and FDA regulations.

Women's rights are a huge issue, that has been improved over the decades. However, it is yet to be completely solved. There is still a large pay gap between women's annual salary and men's.

Education reform was a big issue during the Progressive Era. The main issue was that certain people were not given the opportunity to receive the education that they deserved. This problem is still occurring today. Sadly, both men and women of all ages and ethnicities are not able to get the necessary schooling for their futures.

FDA Regulations were not in existence during the Progressive Era (1890-1920). Because of the novel, Jungle, the society of that time period began to realize that the food products that were being produced in the United States were very unsanitary. After this event, the FDA Regulations were put into effect.

what do I hope to transform in the world?

hey guys!

today, i will be talking about what i hope to transform in the world.

i wish to transform to way that people generalize others. I want people to be able to enjoy their many passions, without having to choose one over the other. I would like to create opportunities for others to pursue their interests and dreams for the future. In more detail, I would form programs, groups, academies, activities, etc. for everyone's personal interests. That way, everyone is able to have the foundation that they deserve to prepare them to chase their dream for the future.

what do you wish to transform?

"The New Kid" by Murray Heyert

Dear young Marty,

Do you remember? Do you remember the way that you acted? Do you remember the way that you acted towards the new kid? I vividly remember all of the unfriendly things that you told him. I remember when you questioned his punch ball skills, when you hadn't even seen him play before. I remember the way that you made fun him in front of the entire neighborhood. This was after the ball had come soaring at him, and landed way behind him. This was after you had done the exact same thing only minutes before. Yet, you still called him out, in front of everyone. You truly embarrassed him. Then, the moment you realized he was scared of you, you took advantage of him. You saw the fear in his eyes, and you approached him. Finally, you violently punched and tortured the new kid.

As I have grown older, and learned new valuable lessons of the years, I am now able to understand your actions from that day: you were overwhelmed, excited, overjoyed. You finally got a game with the older kids in the neighborhood! However, the way that you acted towards the new kid was heartless. Even though that was the way that older kids treated you, it was not right for you treat someone else in the same cruel way. You know how horrible it felt; how many times you wanted to just sit on the curb and cry. Imagine how the new kid felt. Every time I recollect the situation, I completely regret the way that you acted.

In the future, I will make sure that my son, Josh, will never make the same mistake that you made. I will teach him that the golden rule, is the best mindset to live your life by. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Love,
           Marty

Civil War RAFT - my roles during this war

hey guys! Today, I will be writing a friendly letter as if I as woman working in the Union at the time of the Civil War.

Dear my beloved William,

Today was eventful. But isn't everyday during this never-ending war?

I continue to do my usual house work. Y'all know, the boundless window washing and tedious job of sweeping the porch. That is when I am not collecting crucial information on the sites of the battlefields.

I just recently traveled to some of the smaller towns down yonder in Virginia. I was able to gather lots of information in Richmond.

How are y'all doing? I hope all is well. I do miss you.
Also, do make sure to say hello to Walter, his wife told me to ask you.

Write soon.

Sincerely,
Margaret

being a witness

hey guys!

What does being a witness mean to you?

Being a witness to me, means that you are able to watch something occur. However, a witness can either describe someone in a good way or in a bad way. A witness can also be known as a by-stander, someone who watches the situation play-out, yet doesn't make a move to stop it from happening. Nonetheless, a witness can also be used to describe someone who watched an incident and stood up for what they believed was right.

outside reading 2: "sixty acres"

The protagonist, Lee Waite, in the short story "Sixty Acres" is faced with making two important decisions. The first crucial decision Lee Waite is faced with is whether or not he should investigate the current situation, unwanted hunters, on his property. The second decision he is faced with is, during the situation, how should he treat the hunters after they have broken the law.

After Lee Waite, makes up his mind on what to do, his final decisions reveal parts of his true identity. It illustrates that he is protective, caring, and thoughtful. His protectiveness is shown when he risks his live to save his family, by deciding to search for the unwelcomed hunters on the outskirts of his property.  However, his thoughtfulness and kindness is displayed when he decides to let the young, innocent hunters off with a warning.

A personal decision that I have been pondering for a while now, and I've just recently made up my mind about, is where I will be attending high school next year. I had many options to choose from, but I was finally able to narrow it down to one school, the one that I know I will be able to do my best, both academically and socially. The school that I have chosen to attend, reveals my identity by showing my interests and where I feel like I will fit in.
